Restorative Yoga Nidra Workshops
Deeply immersive two hour workshops combine the physical benefits of Restorative Yoga and the mental benefits of Yoga Nidra creating a holistic tonic for overall health. Ieva often collaborates with various body-workers and healers of many backgrounds such as massage therapy, neuro-rebalancing, reiki and sound-therapy. These assistants are able to offer their craft when one is in an open, relaxed state and receptive to deep healing and restoration.
In this dreamy class fondly referred to as “pillow yoga,” bolsters, blankets and blocks are used to completely support the body for longer held postures. Students are brought into deep relaxation and the parasympathetic nervous system is stimulated. Working from this nervous system the body will restore, regenerate, and heal. Muscles are allowed to slowly open and stretch, the immune system is strengthened, energy blockages are released, stress and tension melt away.
Yoga Nidra is a deep form of meditation in which the practitioner is led with awareness into a state of deep sleep while remaining awake. It is here in this state of conscious sleep that we can access the subconscious. This is a purifying practice for the mind in which profound healing can take place and samskaras (deep mental impressions that drive our actions) can be transformed. It is incredibly relaxing, good for combating insomnia, chronic pain, anxiety, stress and PTSD. Treat yourself to this inspired practice. Allow yourself to rest and renew, be supported and nourished as you discover peace and vibrant health.
Align and Refine
These classes are designed deepen your physical awareness while in asanas. Attention is given to alignment and modifications as well as advancing poses. Core strength is stimulated to help you perform from your most powerful place and maintain proper alignment in your daily life. Therapeutic movements, classic asana poses and an extended relaxation at the end of class create a deeply rejuvenating experience.
Sivananda is a sequence of specific hatha postures that work the body internally, stimulating the glandular system and the major organs. Sivananda yoga increases flexibility, strengthens the body, concentration and focus of the mind. Sivananda incorporates relaxation and breathing throughout the sequence. It is practiced in an inward, meditative fashion and is suitable for beginners and advanced practitioners alike.
Classical yoga postures are taught on Glide Paddle Yoga boards in Nantucket’s beautiful Harbor. Class starts with a shoulder warm up, short paddle, then we anchor and begin our asana practice. Because the poses are performed on a moving surface, the core and smaller stabilizing muscle groups are activated and challenged. Even weight distribution and proper alignment is needed to maintain stability making this a great compliment to your studio class as well as a beautiful experience. A serene Sivasana to conclude class will keep you floating all day!
